How It Works

COVID Protocols - If you or anyone in your home has been sick or in contact with anyone that is sick, our consultation will need to be done virtually or rescheduled for a later date.

Scheduling Your Consultation

  • Once you have reviewed the Rates/Services tab and are ready to book your consultation, you may reach out via the Booking Request page or by clicking here.  

  • Dates tend to book out fairly far in advance (typically about 90 days out) and are on a first come, first serve basis.  

  • Appointments are currently offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  

  • Once we choose a date and time for our meeting and you will receive an email with a link to the pre-consultation questionnaire, agreement/waiver and booking deposit.  These forms provide additional insight into your situation and the cat's history.  

  • The pre-consultation forms and $50 deposit must be received within 72-hours of booking.  If these are not received within 72-hours, appointment reservation is subject to cancellation.  $50 deposit goes toward your consultation fee (not in addition to). 

    • If you cancel less than 72-hours of our scheduled appointment, booking deposit will be forfeited.  

  • Day of, if you have not confirmed within 12 hours of your appointment time, The Cat Counselor reserves the right to cancel or reschedule your consultation.  

Preparing for Your Consultation

  • Make sure your cat(s) have recently been seen by their veterinarian to rule out any medical issues that could be contributing to behavior issues

  • Pre-consultation questionnaire and agreement/waiver should have been submitted within 72-hours of booking. 

    • Once submitted, you will receive an email with a PDF copy of the questionnaire and agreement/waiver.

  • Have family members or frequent care givers present if possible, especially if you’d like another set of eyes and ears

  • Consultation Day

    • Have your pet’s favorite treats and toys available

    • Avoid feeding large meals within a couple hours of appointment

    • Prepare a list of questions, concerns, or anything else you wish to discuss

    • Have pen & paper handy to take notes

    • Please present your home in a normal/everyday manner so an accurate a picture of everyday life can be observed

    • Remaining balance will be collected at the beginning of the consultation.  Accepted payment types are cash, check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle and credit card.  

Consultation Overview

  • Consults are very informal and conversational – don’t be nervous

  • There are no “stupid” questions - if you aren’t sure, please ask

  • Consultations generally take about 90 minutes, depending on the severity of the case

  • First, we will review your questionnaire and discuss your case

  • Next, we will discuss the recommendations for managing and addressing the behavior concerns

  • If time allows, we will practice skills

  • Within 5 business days, you will receive your full behavior report & recommendations.  This will be a combination of behavior modification, environmental enrichment and positive reinforcement.  There may also be links to any products that were discussed.    

  • Follow-up after our meeting is highly encouraged and is the responsibility of the client.
